The Maybank Malaysian Open 2011

This year will mark the 50th Anniversary of our very own Malaysian Open and they are going with the tagline “It’s all about the drive”. Yes you heard it right, the Malaysian Open has been going on for 50 years already which is almost the same age of our independence. The event is scheduled to be held on April 14 to 17 so mark your calendars mates.

Well, the organizers have since kicked-off the event recently on 18 to 20 February where a brand new Hyundai Sonata car was up for grabs for the participants. It also allowed participants to win the 4-day Complimentary Season ticket to the Open which is being held at KLGCC (Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club). The Sonata winner will be selected on the final day of the tournament.

There will be another 2 more road shows coming up so you might want to visit them to try your luck with winning the tickets and then winning the car. The next show will be at the Mid Valley Mega Mall which will be on 23 to 27 March while from 30 March to 4 April, they will set foot at 1 Utama Shopping Centre.

Well, in order to win anything, you must be some sort of a golfer or at least a skilled putter. The contest is called “It’s All About the Drive” where you will need to sink a putt to win the tickets. Next you will have to attend all 4 days of the event where each day will get you a stamp. Once you have collected all 4 stamps, you will need to sink all 3 putts consecutively on the final day during the Malaysian Open and you would be the lucky winner.

This year’s edition will see a prize money of USD2.5 million where Malaysian professional golfers will be pitting their games against some world’s best. While no Malaysian has ever won the Open before, past winners of our very own tournament here include former number one Vijay Singh as well as the current number one, Lee Westwood. This year, international players who will be joining the tour include Thongchai Jaidee, John Parry, Marcus Fraser, Rhys Davies and others. Meanwhile, world number 19 Louis Oosthuizen, world number 10 Rory McIIroy too will be involved.
