Malaysian Gavin wins 2011 Malaysian Amateur Close


    Malaysian amateur golfer Gavin Kyle Green has won the 2011 Malaysian Amateur Close golf tournament and this would be the third consecutive time he has done so. He shot an even par of 72 in the final round thereby giving him the championship after 3 days with a total of 216. The 18 year old kept his nerves where he came up with 5 birdies, 3 bogeys and another double-bogey where he finished ahead by 5 strokes over Ng Choo Teck, who led on the first day.

    Gavin said that it was a great outing for him having emerged champion for the third time. Meanwhile, Choo Teck had to settle for second place where he finished with a disappointing 3 over par 75 overtaking his contender Abel Tam with a 5 over par 221. Abel managed to finished with a 71 with a 224 total of 8 over par.

    On the ladies turf meanwhile, Isza Fariza Ismail maintained her lead to the finish line when she complted a 9 over par 225 to win the category. The 17 year old said that she had to fend off some pressure and competition in order to maintain her lead to the last day and the highlight would be when she birdied on the 17th hole. Iman Ahmad Nordin finished runner up with a 226 total where the Kuala Lumpur Amateur champion overtook Nur Durriyah Damian who finished third.

    On a clear weather and green pitch, the tournament saw 76 men and 13 ladies competing for the title as well as to gain entry into the 109th Malaysian Amateur Open that will be held at the A' Famosa Golf Resort on May 19-22. This is one of the three tournaments which will be used as qualifying rounds to the Malaysian Amateur Open of which the top 15 men and 11 ladies have qualified for. Apart from Gavin, Choo Teck and Abel, Lam Yu Shuen and Tan Wei Chean also got through having finished in the top 5 while on the ladies category, Vivienne Chin Ven Yi and Janice Ling Hui Shin were among the top 5 finishers.
