Cheyenne Woods: stepping out of Tiger’s shadows

In winning the recent Atlantic Coast Conference Individual golf tile, Cheyenne Woods is looking to continue building on the success in the upcoming NCAA regionals. Does the name strike a note? Yes, she is related to a renowned golfer, Mr Tiger Woods. In fact, Cheyenne is Tiger’s niece and the Wake Forest junior is looking to step out of his uncle’s shadows in the golfing world to hold her own fort.
She said that she has been trying to show that she can be on her own and be seen as a golfer in every sense and not just Tiger Wood’s niece. She said that being who she is, it was a bit hard in the start but with more achievements in tournaments, she is looking to start being seen as a golfer in her own accords.

While Tiger has not won anything for 17 months, Cheyenne has won 2 titles. She is currently fourth in the ACC rankings where she holds an average 73.59 score. She was also the only player under par in all rounds at the ACC Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greesnboro recently where she finished with a 68, marking the best round of the season for her.
How is she related to Tiger? Her father Earl Jr is a half brother to Tiger and having the Woods name meant that she does actually have quite some big shoes to fill and unnecessary pressure. This is not something she rejects but instead claims to have quite a positive effect on her. After her victory, he said that Tiger had texted her to congratulate her after having watched her on the Internet.

She however begs to differ in terms of her game as compared to Tiger’s claiming that she is more a laid back golfer, making less aggressive shots as compared to the former world number one. She will be fully focus on the NCAA regionals next and then there will be another season with the Demon Deacons with which after that, she is planning to turn pro which would surely be the right time and right place to go after her achievements in the past year.
