Promoting trade between Sweden and Malaysia is one of the Embassy’s most important tasks. The Commercial Section at the Embassy offers a wide range of services in order to facilitate the establishment of commercial links between companies in Sweden and Malaysia.
Swedish export to Malaysia increased rapidly from 1991 until 1998 when the economic crisis hit the region. It amounted to 4.2 billion SEK in 1997 and the major export products were telecommunication equipment, motor vehicles and power generation equipment. In 1999, Swedish export amounted to 2.9billion SEK.
Swedish import from Malaysia, 1.4 billion SEK, comprised mainly of electronic, palm oil and natural rubber.
Malaysia has, during the 90’s, seen remarkable economic development. During the last 10 years the economic growth has amounted to in average eight percent per year. The Prime Minister Mahathir’s goal is that Malaysia shall be a developed country by the year 2020, “Vision 2020”.
One step towards the fulfilment of Vision 2020 is the creation of Multimedia Super Corridor, MSC, which is a 15-by-50 kilometer zone extending south from Petronas Twin Towers to the new airport KL International Airport. The aim is to build a perfect environment for IT-companies to create, distribute and employ mobile products and services. To attract foreign IT-companies to come to Malaysia, a number of benefits and guarantees are offered by the Government.

Nytt gisslandrama Filippinerna
Ambassadens tidigare information kvarstår. Med hänsyn till gisslantagandet den 26 maj av ett 20-tal turister vid ett känt turistparadis på den filippinska ön Palawan, nordöst on Sabah, vill ambassaden mana till extra försiktighet, även på välbevakade malaysiska turistmål som tex Sipadan. Regler för införsel av katt och hund till Sverige
Hundar och katter som skall föras från Malaysia till EU måste uppfylla följande villkor:
-djuren får inte ha varit i kontakt med grisar under de 60 dagar som närmast föregått exporten
-djuren har inte hållits i anläggningar där det under de senaste 60 dagarna har förekommit fall av Nipah-sjukdomen
-djuren har visat negativa resultat vid ELISA-tester för undersökning av IgG, vilka har utförts i laboratorier som godkänts av de behöriga veterinärsmyndigheterna för analyser avseende antikroppar mot Nipah-viruset, på blodprov som tagits inom 10 dagar före export.
-djur som ska importeras till EU får transiteras i Malaysia under villkor att de inte lämnar den internationella flygplatsens område.
