The WNB Golf Classic held at the Midland Country Club came to a sensational end with Andrew Putnam won the championship to make his first Web.com Tour title. The 25-year old golfer shot an 8-under 64 on Saturday to reach 20 under with a 7-stroke advantage before winning at the championship amidst some strong winds.
At the final round of the WNB Golf Classic, play had to be stopped about noon when the wind was recorded at 28mph and gusts reaching as high as 43mph. A little while after that, the gusts had reached some 50mph.
The 7-shot advantage had Putnam’s confidence growing but he was wary of how it might work out but with the win, he took home US$108,000 which will surely earn him a spot in the PGA tour of 2014-15. Andrew after all comes from a golfer family with his brother Michael being on the PGA Tour this season after winning last year’s Web.com Tour.
