We get it! You made plans to play golf for the coming weekend with your mates but nature sometimes has other plans. Waking up on that Saturday morning, you noticed the dark clouds forming and hope that it won’t bring the rain.

Getting to your golf game

The anticipation towards your weekend golf game session can be quite crazy especially when you have had a long week. You would have made plans to get a good game and when the weekend finally comes, you would do anything to overcome the hurdles that come your way. So, what if it was starting to rain?

You can never be too prepared

In 2019, 6 spectators at the Atlanta’s Tour Championship in the USA were injured when 2 lightning strikes occurred.

In 2021, 4 golfers who went to seek shelter under a tree during a rainy session was thrown out of their positions when lightning hit the tree. The incident was captured on video and it has since gone viral.

Can you ever be ready? One thing for sure, if it is lightning, there is no sure way of evading.

  • If you hear thunder, it is best not to go out at all.
  • If you are playing halfway, stop immediately. There is no reason to risk your life.
  • Find shelter indoors, NEVER under a tree
  • Avoid touching metal or electrical devices. This includes your clubs, umbrellas and such.
  • NEVER seek shelter in the golf buggy.
  • If you are in a wide, open area and you cannot find a shelter nearby, you want to be the smallest target possible. You can do this by squatting down and have your hands touching your knees with your head between your legs.
  • If you see a concrete wall, do not lean against it.
  • Stay away from water and from trees as far away as possible.
