Royal Selangor Club or also commonly referred to as Kelab DiRaja Selangor is a reputable social club established by British in 1884. Ideally situated right next to Independence Square (Dataran Merdeka), the club is accessible via Jalan Raja. Perhaps, it is more famously known as the host for a number of matches such as ICC U-19 Cricket World Club.
Continuous and untimely effort to enhance the club’s reputation in order to turn it into a national heritage building and institution since its inception was a success as it has gained royal status from Selangor Sultan’s, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. Being the country’s oldest club, Sultan of Selangor declared that the institution remained forever during the 100th years celebration.
When it comes to prestige and reputation, few golf clubs in Malaysia comes close to the Royal Selangor Golf Club or RSGC. This is because it is one of the oldest golf clubs to be built in the country and has grown in stature and prestige ever since, making it one of the leading golf clubs in the country, played by royal families, dignitaries and public figures.
The idea was first mooted by a group of coffee planters in 1893 and before long, the Glassford brothers, Clem and John and the Meikle brothers Kit and Robert became the founding members of the club. It would then go through several stages of change and has grown to become one of the most exclusive and reputable Golf Courses in the international golfing circuit today.
Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city center, the RSGC has two 18-hole championship courses and a short 9-hole course. Within the course is some very serene and peaceful landscapes which overlook some of the most modern and futuristic skyscrapers of the city center.
As it was one of the few championship courses here throughout history, the RSGC has played host to countless tournaments including the first prestigious Malaysian Open through its Old Course while the New Course has already welcomed golfers from all around the world ever since. Here is where even the most experienced golfer will need to navigate through some of the toughest obstacles on the course that include bunkers, water ponds, fairways and such.
