The KGM (Kelab Golf Miri) Amateur Open Golf Championship in Miri, Sarawak is scheduled to be held between the 9th and 10th of June 2014. This tournament is one of the most prestigious events in the Malaysian golfing calendar which brings together junior golfers around the country and some from neighbouring countries.
The tournament, which will be held over the 2 days will see boys and girls below 18 years old to battle it out for the title. This event is sanctioned by the SGA or Sarawak Golf Association and this year will mark the 10th anniversary of the competition which seen very active participation ever since it first started.
Known as the YBhg Dato’ Sebastian Ting Challenge Trophy, the invitation for the tournament has now been extended to golfers in as far as Singapore and China. Meanwhile those from the local and Brunei golf scenes have been invited to participate as well.
To date, more than 100 junior golfers have already registered and it is the highest number ever as confirmed by the organizing chairman Jeremy Ting. To make the tournament more exciting, there will be 2 hole-in-one prizes which is an iPad Mini Air and a Canon camera, compliments from the patron of the event.
Jaclyn Chen of KGM who won the 2013 edition will be back to defend her title while local players from the Junior Development Programme of the KGM will be involved as well. There will be a charity donation to the Miri Autism Association this year as it is usually practiced previously.
