The MALGA or Malaysian Ladies Golf Association is the golfing body for women in Malaysia. The association was established in 1983 and was the result of the initiative of the late Mrs Mary Williams who together with H.R.H. Tunku Ampuan of Negeri Sembilan, Y.A.M. Tunku Tun Maimunah Sultan Ismail and Ms Tan Siew Lay formed the association.
Where the 3 ladies become Life Mambers, H.R.H. Tunku Ampuan became the patron of MALGA. MALFA’s first president was Y Bhg Datin Maria Musa while a list of other notable public individuals like Ms Jennifer Loh, Puan Sri Lee Eng Lin, Aminah Yusof others too have been involved with the development of golf among ladies in Malaysia.
MALGA was an initiative very much and actively supported by Tan Sri Dato Abdul Hamid, the husband of Mrs Williams who was the then President of MGA (Malaysian Golf Association). MALGA came under the purview of the Sports Commissioner of Malaysia under the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 1993 and has been actively organizing events and activities to promote the sport among ladies and to encourage them to take up the sport.
