The Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic came to an end amidst and tense final round which was won by Lyida Ko. This would be her sixth tournament win and only her second since turning professional. She managed a 2-shot lead with 4 holes to go after bypassing Stacy Lewis who had led the table the day before the final.
Winning the Swinging Skirts is Ko’s first in The United States where she managed a birdie on the 18th hole. Her lead was reduced to a shot by Lewis and Jenny Shin who played along her. However, Ko held her nerve to win her first major tournament.
The 17-year old New Zealander had started the day a stroke behind Lewis but she birdied 3 of the final 4 holes and completed the day 3-under 69 and 12-under 276 in total. The event held at Lake Merced saw Ko taking home US$270,000 where she celebrated her 17th birthday only 3 days earlier. With that win, the teenager will now move up to the second spot in the next world ranking after a remarkable outing in Thailand late last year when she won the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters, her first win since turning professional.
