It is essential to get the right diet when playing golf because you want to be fully focused on your game and not having to run to the toilet when it matters.

Always forgotten and overlooked

One of the biggest mistakes golfers make is that they do not put enough importance on the diet. They tend to just grab something to eat and then hit the greens as they think the latter is what they should be focusing on and nothing else. Did you know that if you do not have a proper pre-game routine, it would affect your game later? what you eat before you hit the greens would need to sustain you for the next 3 to 4 hours and that should be something you must remember!

Setting the food right

What you want to do when you have a golf game coming up is to get in the right frame of mind and have a diet plan that works for you.

  • A night before the game – It is best to have lean protein for dinner the night before the game. This means you should take chicken or fish that keeps you away from hunger. You should also get some high-fiber carbs that give you a lot of nutrients and vitamins too. Make sure you are hydrated and take your meal at least 2 hours before going to bed. You should avoid pasta or alcohol.
  • The day of the game – Make sure that you have a good breakfast before setting out. Avoid taking a full, English breakfast as you will be full without the nutrients. Try to have your breakfast about an hour before hitting the greens with high-fiber cereal or low-fat yogurt If possible, get a cereal bar or some nuts (for energy) before teeing off even if you have the right techniques. Be sure to bring a lot of water to stay hydrated when playing.
  • While playing – Pack a high-sugar snack in your bag. Some golfers bring protein shakes with them onto the greens because they give them energy throughout the game while keeping their bodies hydrated too. Meanwhile, you can pack apples or bananas to give you that extra push when needed. They are convenient and easy to carry too. Another really effective option is to bring nuts and almonds are the best and one of the healthiest options to have.
  • Other types of foods – You could bring burgers or hot dogs with you but should only be taken around the last few holes. This is because you would be quite hungry by then and a heavier snack might help to keep your hunger at bay although they might not provide you with additional energy. You would be winding down by now, so these foods would not be detrimental much.
