Tips for the Golf Amateur – 5 best ways to become better and to keep going

By the time you read this, you would probably know the benefits of playing golf. You would have read about how it helps with improving your health while giving you one of the most remarkable options in enjoying a game. You would have read about the satisfaction of getting the right hit and the sound that seems to give you maximum enjoyment. So, if you are planning to venture far into this game, below are some tips that you might want to take note of.

Practice, practice, practice

Whatever game you play, whatever you do, nothing beats practice. There is no such thing as an overnight success and despite how talented you think you are in your swing, you still need to practice. You will need to practice your swing, your putt, teeing-off which will only get better the more frequent you practice. Having an expert opinion will help as well.

Maintain mental stability

Golf is a game that requires a lot of patience. Never allow anger or excitement to get the better of you. If you have taken a poor shot, do not feel agitated straight away which a common mistake many golfers make is. In fact, being angry and annoyed constantly will only kill your love for the game. Take a step back, practice the swing again and see how it goes. If you encounter the same poor shot, then revisit your technique.

Feel the putter

This is an important part of golf. Remember that putting requires practice and you need to do this in order to feel what your putter can do. A good carpenter always knows his tools. Before hitting the greens, you need to know how fast and how far your putter can hit and this is more significant if you are playing in a new golf course. Make five-foot putts to get your hits right and then proceed with putting to the sides. This will give you a good feel of the green.

Striking the ball

If possible, try to swing through the ball instead of at the ball. A lot of amateur golfers think that hitting the ball is the best way to see if you can get your swing right. One of the best ways to check if you are hitting the irons through the ball is to use a divot as your reference point. Put a tee next to the marking of the golf ball and that is where you should start on the divot. Once you have hit the ball, check and see where the divot is. If the divot starts where the golf ball is (usually about an inch in front), then it shows that you have struck the ball well.

It is not always in the clubs

Some of the so-called experts will tell you that having good clubs make a lot of difference. However, this could well be inaccurate as with good practice, the clubs could only play a small part. Instead, do not fall for the trick that you need to invest in very expensive gear. You can always start with the affordable ones or those that suit your style of play before going for the more branded and sophisticated golf clubs.
