Deejay Kamil Layali @ Funk.K

House/Progressive/Techno

In love with music ever since a very young and tender age, he was always intrigued by grooves and melodies. His early influences include Al Green, Barry White, Nat King Cole and the 80’s of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Janet Jackson which had led him to quietly helping himself to his father’s and elder siblings’ music collection.

Almost a decade later during his “rocker” years, his musical exposure had grown for his interest in music found him influenced by a wide variety of genres. They include bands such as Teenage Fan Club, The Cure, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden. This led him to obtaining musical knowledge through instruments such as the guitar and drums.

During these teenage years, his selection of self-compiled tracks would be done specially for friends and he would also be the appointed DJ at house parties, armed with a pair of cassette decks and CD players to entertain.

His big break came after getting serious about his musical hobby. He gained respectable accolades in local competitions, emerging 2nd runner-up at the 2004 Vestax Extravaganza DJ Championship and finalist in the 2004 Pioneer Digital ProDJ events. Since then Kamil has been rocking the ‘floors all over Malaysia.

Having headlined at huge New Years Eve parties such as the Xpax Countdown 2006 in Penang and Mandarin Oriental Hotel’s 2009 Lobby Party, played alongside Kuala Lumpur’s Crème Of The Crop at venues like Nouvo, Maison and Velvet Underground @ Zouk KL and very recently, he is one of the first of local DJs to be featured as a guest at Ministry Of Sound KL’s Euphoria. This shows the immense experience and versatility Funk.K – also known by his peers as Kamil – has gained which will guarantee you a good outing on the dancefloor.

Drawing inspiration from a wide variety of DJs and producers such as Victor G, Danny Howells, Chuck Love, Latenta Project and Spiritchaser as well as techno heavyweights Space DJz and Ben Sims – his track selections are diverse, comes with tight programming and smooth, seamless flow.

Being a self confessed clubber who loves to dance, he knows exactly what to do when helming the decks. Whatever the occasion may be, his unique blend of music can range from deep, soulful and sexy for light and easy listening to a wild mix of driving basslines, funky rhythm and ear-tingling melodies to satisfy even the hardest club heads on the dancefloor. If you’re in a club where he’s playing, get ready for a set that promises to be unpredictable and be prepared to be hooked on the dancefloor!
