Foong Zi Yu – Success in golf recognized to represent Malaysia in upcoming tournaments

Foong Zi Yu is one of the young golfers to be selected into the 2020/2021 Malaysian Team (Local Based). In early 2020, she won the Malaysian Junior Golf tournament. Prior to that, Zi Yu has participated in various tournaments to add to her achievements since coming into the scene as a young and emerging golfer.

Rising golfing star

Zi Yu has been touring the circuit for a while now and she has set the stage for the competition on so many occasions. In 2019, she won the DC Cup Tournament of Champions. The event was organized by My Future Junior Tour and she won her category together with other winners Hariz Hezri, Ng Jing Xuen and Caeden Cheah. This tournament is one of the more prestigious ones in the amateur circuit as it brings together 12 young golfers through merit points accumulated throughout the year in the My Future Junior Tour tournaments. Zi Yu beat Ashley Yen at the semi-finals before coming out on top in the finals, beating Maisarah Hezri in the final round.

Tournaments and competitions

Zi Yu is actively involved in competitions and has won several high-profile ones. She participated and finished second at the 2019 Melaka Amateur Open, fourth at the 2019 SportExcel Junior Premier Elite fist leg and then second at the second leg before winning the 2019 Hainan Junior Golf Tour Leg 4 & Hainan Junior Golf Championship. That same year saw Zi Yu going on strong and then winning the MYFJT Tournament of Champions too.

2020 meanwhile has been a great year for Zi Yu who won the Malaysian Junior Closed and SportExcel Malaysian Premier Elite Grand Finals, the Faldo Series Malaysian Championship and the UUMISM-MALGA Amateur Golf Series (I). That year also saw her finishing second at the PGM Ladies Championship 2020 which is a remarkable achievement for a golfer as young as her.
