At the recent biennial meeting of the IGF (International Golf Federation) in Paris at the Le Golf National last August, it has been decided that the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships will be held in Singapore.
The venue for the WATC is at the Tanah Merah Country Club. The decision was made in conjunction with the WATC which was running in France. There was no WATC in 2017 due to the pandemic.
About the WATC
The WATC is a biennial event that is made up of 2 events which are:
- Eisenhower Trophy (Men)
- Espirito Santo Trophy (Women)
The tournament is among the oldest in the circuit which was first held in 1958. Up to 72 countries compete on the course over 72 holes.
Each country usually fields 2 or 3 players where the 2 lowest scores are counted.
Looking forward to the 2025’s edition, the IGF is confident that Singapore will be a great host and that the golfers will surely have a great gaming experience there.
For the host, it would be a great privilege to be selected to organize the tournament for the first time.
The Tanah Merah’s Tampines Course, an internationally-acclaimed golf course will be the hunting ground for both the events of the WATC. Events that the course has hosted before this include the Singapore International and International Series Singapore.
After France, the WATC will then head to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates for the 2023’s edition. Then it is Singapore before the 2027 edition which will be held in Morocco. Malaysia was the last Southeast Asian country to host the WATC back in 2002 at the Saujana Golf and Country Club.
