SportExcel or Malaysian Sporting Excellence (Yayasan Kecemerlangan Sukan Malaysia) is one of the more prominent names in Malaysia golf. Incorporated in 1989, SportExcel was the brainchild and effort of Tunku Tan Sri Imran, who is the chairman of the body. The idea of SportExcel was to grow and develop Malaysian Sports. The Patron of SportExcel is the Minister of Youth and Sports which shows that it is a body which is fully supported and aligned with the Malaysian Government.
As the name might imply, this is all about excellence in sports. Hence, the programs and initiatives under SportExcel are all driven to achieve such objectives. Funding are derived through the private sector with donations eligible for tax exemption. Since its beginnings, SportExcel has grown Malaysian sports from the junior levels as it is believed that development in the junior level is the way for growing Malaysian sports into the future.
