Ai FM is a Chinese language radio station broadcasted around Malaysia. ‘Ai’ is actually the mandarin word for ‘Love’ where it stemmed from one of the oldest radio stations in the country. Ai FM is owned and operated by RTM or Radio Televisyen Malaysia, the national media company which owns several free-to-air television channels and radio stations.
Listeners of Ai FM would be very familiar with this station which comes on throughout the day and everyday of the year. It was formerly known as Radio 5 before changing to Radio Malaysia Saluran 5 where it was then one of the few Chinese language radio stations around. In fact, for over 60 years, Radio 5 was the only radio station that broadcasted in Chinese and it was only in 1996 that a trilingual private station came up through Redi FM before it became a full Chinese language station today.
Apart from that, other Chinese language stations that have come about since then includes the likes of Astro Radio-owned Melody FM and MY FM. Despite that, Ai FM continues to entertain its listeners through the airwaves via its specially designed segments.
The morning Ai Aksi programme which comes on from 6.00am to 10.00am is among the most listened segments while followers enjoy the hourly news updates. Other segments like Ai Ceria, Ai Sembang and their top music charts are very popular as well.
The main language used by Ai FM is mandarin although Cantonese and Hokkien music is sometimes broadcasted as well where listeners in Kuala Lumpur tune in at 89.3MHz.
