The PGAM or Professional Golf Association of Malaysia is an organization that plays an instrumental role in the growth of the golf sport in Malaysia.

Committed to developing golf

The PGAM is involved both directly and indirectly in the growth and development of golf at every possible level in Malaysia. This includes the junior competitions all the way to the professional tours.

Besides that, the PGAM ensures the collaboration of golf-related bodies from the local and international fronts. This is to ensure that the game of golf enjoys good promotion and development in all areas.

Important roles and events

While the PGAM helps to grow the game of golf through major events, it is also involved in training and educational initiatives that will push the game towards greater heights.

PGAM also protects the interest of professional golfers of the country so that they can collectively contribute to the development of the game for everyone.

Hence, PGAM promotes tournaments and tours that will contribute tremendously to the sport.

A member of the International Federation of PGA Tours and any other related bodies while ensuring the integrity of the sport by enforcing and practicing the Rules of Golf where required.

As a primary body for golf, the PGAM also regulates professional golf, the administrating of the game and other initiatives that will help in upholding the integrity of the game. Therefore, it plays a vital role in the education of the game.

Such a role will require the PGAM to conduct or establish golfing schools or coaching facilities so that more Malaysians will take up and love the game.

Tournaments and Events

One of the significant events carried out by the PGAM is the Satellite Tour which was first held in 2021. The event was an 18-hole game held at the Danau Golf Club before moving to the next 2 legs at Impian Golf Club and the Seri Selangor Golf Club respectively.

While the prize money was much smaller as compared to the other tournaments, it had very good and encouraging participation. The events are all played over 18 holes.

Participants need to be PGAM professionals and amateurs who are above 13 years of age with USGA handicaps of below 7.

Basically, the number of participants and sponsorships in every leg will determine the prize money with the breakdown of the prize winnings divided among the top 6 players. The winner gets 32% while the runner-up gets 20%. It will be 15%, 11%, 8% and then 5% for the next 4 winners.

As for the amateurs, no cash prizes will be awarded.

As mentioned, the PGAM is an important body that helps golfers get to higher levels of the game. As such, the PGAM is affiliated with many other major bodies like the Asian Tour, the Asian Development Tour, the ASEAN PGA Tour, the Japan Golf Tour, the PGA Tour, the European Tour, the Sunshine Tour and the PGA Tour Australia.

In terms of affiliation with golf clubs, the PGAM is affiliated with more than 40 golf clubs in Malaysia and 2 others in Australia.

  • Templer Park GC and Impian GC in Selangor
  • The Awana Golf Club and Royal Pekan GC in Pahang

  • Penang Golf Club in Penang
  • The Johor Golf Club and Ponderosa GC in Johor
  • Samarahan GC and Damai GC in Sarawak
  • Sabah GC, Sutera Harbour GC and Dalit Bay GC in Sabah
  • Kelab Golf Desa Kelantan in Kelantan
