One of the most common equipment overlooked by golfers in their game is the golf ball. While there are a lot of attention being put onto the clubs and irons and such, the ball is often overlooked. So the question asked, is the golf ball really that important? The answer is yes if you are concerned with the quality of your game. No, if you are not. So which one are you?
First things first, you must examine a couple of things in choosing the right ball for your game. First you must know your own level. If you are starting out in learning the game, the ball you are using would differ to that if you are a more seasoned golfer and more so if you are an expert player already.
Next you would need to know the style of your game. This is where you would need to identify your own game and examine how you hit the ball most of the time. Do you hook more often or tend to slice more? Are you more a long hitter than a short one or do you require the spins from the short irons and such. This will help you determine the type of golf balls you will need in your game.
Your style of play affects the type of ball
The next area which you will have to examine is what you want the golf ball to do. You will need to look at your style of play and see if you need the ball to get into the long distance or otherwise.
We will head into the types of golf balls for the beginner, the intermediate and the advanced golfers but before we get there, you must first understand the behavior of golf balls. The general types of golf balls are the Balata, the Litium and the Surlyn covers which differs in terms of their compression or ball cover. The Balata is a 3 piece ball which are soft in nature allowing the golfer to do more to it. The surlyn ball is a 2 piece ball which is harder which means it is harder to accustom to the hit. These are just some general types of golf balls which are commonly used but ultimately it is still up to the golfer on what they are comfortable with. Compression of the ball are usually given ratings of 80 to 100 where the higher ratings meant the higher the compression which is where it feels harder when you hit it. 90 is the most common rate.
Tomorrow, we’ll discuss on different balls for different game levels.
